from the earliest times people everywhere have tried to understand the origins of this hybrid form of art and dance. In Africa, there are many forms of expression incorporating dance and movement within stories, with a lesson to be learnt at the end. Through this form of expression ideas and messages can be aired without directly offending anyone, and information can be given in an amusing and memorable way. Mas' today incorporates a unified sense of traditions. It creates varying different ways of expression ranging from traditional-based walking Mas' and soca/calypso music to celebrating Mas' 'by other means', through the new rhythms of drum'n'bass and hip-hop.
